No matter how much of an avid athlete you are, if you have an office job, chances are you’re probably sitting for the larger portion of your day. Working at a desk, hunched over a keyboard can wreak havoc on your body (carpal tunnel, anyone?). As you may already know, programmers are notorious for putting in long hours in front of their screens, which can make these problems even worse.
Doing something as simple as taking a stretching break or a going for a short afternoon jog or walk can help alleviate these aches, but it’s tough to remember to do this when you’re chained to your desk trying to wrap up a project and to get home in time for dinner. That’s where a shift in corporate culture can come to the rescue of these aching necks and backs.
At Thinking Software, a company dedicated to developing workforce management solutions, there were already a few keen mountain bikers enthusiastically supporting Endomondo and using our app regularly, but there wasn’t a joint approach to getting the entire team on the fitness bandwagon.
That all changed when the management team over at Thinking Software decided to make fitness an official part of the culture by signing the entire office up to Endomondo Premium with an Employee Fitness plan.
The enthusiasm is running rampant over at Thinking Software HQ, with over half of their entire staff signed up to Employee Fitness, creating their own training plans and joining the challenges. They’ve gone a step further, getting actively involved in charity runs (using JustGiving to track their efforts), which they’ve added as challenges on their page.
Making fitness an important part of their team activities has helped their team feel more connected and more energized. “The sharing of training advice, inevitable banter about best times and memories from attending training sessions and events all contributes to a great team environment during the working day, ensuring we’re working together to serve our customers to the best of our ability.”
This year, their team is planning on joining various events, including Wolf Run, Tough Mudder, Spartan Race and a Half Marathon, so training with our app will help them get motivated, train smarter and face these challenging races head on.
Have you ever wished you could share your workouts with your colleagues and add some healthy competition to your workday, just like the Thinking Software team does? Well, just drop us a line here, and let’s get your company fit too!
