Okay, we get it. Working out can be tough, and sometimes a lack of time can make it hard to figure out how to add yet another thing to your already packed schedule. But in all honesty, is there really any good excuse to not get in a short workout every day?
Even if it’s just adding some more movement or five extra minutes to your routine, those small fitness feats do add up. To help you out, we’ve covered the top 5 ways to get motivated to get moving.
1. Add a beat
There’s no doubt about it—music makes workouts more motivating and can keep you going longer. We bet you already have a decent playlist on your phone ready to roll whenever you head out. Yet, even if you fancy yourself a skilled DJ, you still may need some new jams to amp up your favorite playlist and make it match the intensity of your workouts.
There are tons of playlist services out there that can help you find tracks based on the BPMs you want, but if you’re looking for something to get you going asap, check out the selection of tunes from Filtr Boost on Spotify.
2. Bring a friend
Let’s face it. Sometimes, getting off your comfy couch and out of your jammies to go for a run or hit the gym is the last thing you feel like doing. This is when having a designated workout buddy can help you get out of hermit mode and into your training zone.
With Endomondo, you can tag friends that workout with you, so you can keep track of your runs or walks together. If your fitness friend can’t come along, try live tracking with some friends on Endomondo and get motivated with their pep talks.
3. Choose your gear wisely
Your workout gear should be tailored both to your body and your workout. You’ll also want to consider whether you’ll be doing your workouts indoors or if you’ll be exposed to the elements. Think about it: if you’re heading to a gym session or Pilates class, you’ll want to feel comfortable and free.
A pair of yoga pants, a lightweight shirt and your favorite sneakers will most likely do the trick. But if you’re taking on the asphalt and going for a run, then you’ll need to choose a pair of excellent running shoe as well as tough, weatherproof gear.
4. Discover new routes
Maybe you’re feeling in a slump. If that’s the case, you might just need to shake things up on your next workout. This could be as easy as finding a new place to go for a run or leisurely walk somewhere you haven’t passed by before.
If you feel like taking the scenic route or seeing some of the unexplored places to work out around you, why not check out some of the other routes users have added on Endomondo?
5. Elevate your activity
Take the stairs. Or walk to your lunch during your break. Or stand up and do some exercises at your desk. Really, anything goes as long as it gets you moving those extra steps. If you’re short on time but want to get a full workout in, consider opting for quick, high intensity workouts.
You can choose to dedicate just a few minutes a day to a short workout or interval training session, so there’s no reason to not give it a shot. Remember, making excuses burns 0 calories a minute.
So, we know we said five, but we’re throwing in a bonus because it is a tried-and-true way to get fit. Have a goal. When you set a goal that you want to achieve, you’ll make the time to get in the extra activities that will get you there. If the difference between a goal and a dream is a deadline, then the difference between achieving it or not is a choice. It’s yours to make, but we’re here to help!
