Interval training. You’ve probably heard of it before, but even if you’re an avid runner, you may not be using it as part of your training. We’ve been touting the benefits of HIIT (or High Intensity Interval Training) for some time, but if you haven’t tried it before, it may seem more intimidating than just going for a run at a steady pace. Many of you may already be using our Peptalk feature to root for your friends while they work out. But some of you may be asking what a pep talk even is? Continue reading It’s the 2014 Endomondo Peptalk Awards!
We’re thrilled to announce that the third major Windows Phone app update in seven months has been released!
Our app for Windows Phone now offers Premium features – customizable training plans and audio coach settings, low power mode, ad free experience and more. If you already are a Premium user, all you need to do to get these features for your Windows Phone app is to upgrade to the latest 22.214.171.124 version. There are also a bunch of new, highly-requested free features included in this release!
You can now create a training plan right in the app. When the Endomondo app is launched, you will see the planned workout for that particular day. In the main app menu, you’ll find the Training Plan tab, where you can see all the past and future workouts within your training plan.
As we work with diverse interval trainings to enhance variety and intensity of the training plan, the audio coach will guide you through the workout, by informing you when each interval starts and how fast to go. Notifications are being sent to you when you have a planned workout. These can of course be disabled.
Audio coach customization – Lap feedback
All Premium users on Windows Phone can now customize the audio coach based on time or distance intervals and choose what parameters to get feedback on. You can choose whether the Audio Coach should be time-based (e.g. every 3 minutes) or distance-based (e.g. every 500 m). Distance can be set from 100 m and time can be set from 15 sec. You can also specify what you want to hear specifically, toggling on/off the following options: Total distance, Total duration, Lap distance/duration, Calories, Lap speed, Lap pace, Avg. speed, Avg. pace, Heart rate, Avg. heart rate, Goal and Goal reached. You can also opt for getting an indication when you’re in the middle of interval.
Low power mode
Low Power mode significantly decreases the upload frequency of workout data to the server during tracking but has no influence on GPS accuracy.
Calorie and duration goal
Define a calorie or duration goal for your workout and let the audio coach guide you along the way.
Audio coach customization – New languages
You can choose from 6 different languages: English, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish. You need to install the language first and there are a few accent options for some languages.
We added a notification inbox where you can view notifications of likes and comments and accept/reject friend and challenge invites
– Live Tile notification
Front side shows our logo and number of notifications and the latest notification is displayed on the backside.
– ‘Toast’ notifications, in WP 8.1 – integration with notification center
Tag ‘Friends’ on workouts
If you have been working out with your friends, you tag them afterwards. When you press stop on your workout, you’ll go to social screen where your can just press friend icon and choose from your friends. The app will even suggest friends for you to tag.
You don’t need to go to our website anymore to control your privacy settings.
Full (almost) profile editing
You can edit your profile right in the app besides changing the password and adding emails.
Goal dashboard field (free feature if using distance goal)
Data field showing count down to remaining goal / interval
We hope you’ll enjoy freeing your endorphins with this new release.
When we introduced our subscription solution, we committed to continuously add value for our Premium users. Today, we are thrilled to introduce Mobile Statistics – the newest addition to Premium on Android and iPhone. We believe that having a nice overview of your hard-earned workout data right in the app is motivating and we hope you’ll enjoy the new feature.
Before we dig into the specifics of Statistics, please note that users who are not currently Premium members have a chance of trying out Premium including Mobile Statistics for a month at no cost. Just enter code VIEW-MY-STATS during checkout here by the end of April 2014.
How it works
Statistics let you analyze your performance over time. The stats view can be personalized to show exactly the metric you prefer: Number of workouts, distance, duration or calories. To choose your metric, just click on the current metric which will default be set to either Distance or Calories. Further, the charts can be divided into Days/Month, Weeks/Year or Months/Year – and even a few others on Android. Change your setting by clicking on the current time period in the chart’s header.
Each sport has its own color and your performance in the previous period is illustrated with a light grey bar in the background. If for example you choose the Months/Year view, the grey bar for April shows your total performance last year in April for comparison.
Finally, Premium users on iPhone can filter stats by sport and #hashtag, e.g., to keep track of the mileage done in your running shoes. You’ll find these filtering options in the top bar – and they can actually be applied to your history list as well. These filtering options will be introduced on Android in one of the next releases. We also plan on including a full-screen landscape view on both platforms.
It’s been a few days now since we launched the new website design and Premium solution. We’ve gotten a ton of feedback – including a lot more negative feedback than we’re used to. While it’s impossible for us to reply to all posts, please note that we’re reading it all carefully, and we want to thank all of you for your input.
The frustrations related to parts of Statistics being moved to Premium are understandable. We should have told you about the changes in advance, and we wish we had – sorry about that. It was not an easy decision to do this but it will benefit all users in the longer term. This may sound like marketing BS but the truth is that there’s no doubt we get higher conversion this way and we need that revenue to continuously run and improve Endomondo. As much as we would like the PRO app and our ad revenue to pay our bills, it’s just not enough. Some of you are naturally asking: “What’s next?” and in the interest of transparency, here’s our plan going forward:
– No additional features will be moved from free to paid versions.
– Some of the new Premium web features will also be available on Android and iPhone within the next month or two. This is already included in the pricing of Premium.
– Within the next six months, we expect to launch additional Premium features and depending on the nature of these, we may increase the price of Premium at that time, but only for NEW users. Users that have already signed up will still be charged the current $19.99 per year or $2.99 per month.
– Instead of running our own webshop, we’ll partner up with relevant affiliate shop partners in our biggest markets. These partners obviously don’t get access to any user contact information whatsoever. This move will help us focus on the core and on improving Endomondo.
– We’ll continue to add new features to the free version on both web and mobile and the PRO app.
The monthly cost of Premium is $1.67 if you subscribe to an annual membership. We hope a lot of our users can afford it and find our service to be worth it.
To accommodate our PRO users, we’re reducing this price further for PRO users. Starting some time next week (UPDATE: See ETA at bottom of post), users that have a PRO app associated with their account, will get $4.99 in discount the first year when upgrading to the annual plan. PRO users that have upgraded to the annual plan before this change will get 6 months extra added to their subscription free of charge. PRO users that have upgraded to the monthly plan before this change will get 2 months added for free. We’ll basically just push the date for the next billing 6 and 2 months out respectively, so you don’t have to do anything.
It’s the season of Thanksgiving and we really do want to thank you all for your support so far. We hope you’ll support us on our future journey too and help us serve you all better longer term. Thank you.
By the way, some of the valued feedback we’re working on:
– Fix the bug in statistics causing some workouts to appear on the wrong day or not appear at all
– Re-introduce the weight entry box
– Make it possible to pay with PayPal
UPDATE Nov. 30th: It will take us a little longer to get the discount set up correctly due to technical issues. We’ll let you know in a new blog post as soon as it’s done! Thanks
