Sometimes, it takes getting though the school of hard knocks to come out a champion. That’s what happened to one of our users, Peter. He reached out to us, telling us about how one decision to change has made a world of difference. With his permission, we’ve shared Peter’s inspiring story, which is a testament to the strength and tenacity of the human spirit.

“Hey Endo team,

I was just checking out my Endomondo profile and saw that my first workout is from August 2nd, 2011. At the time, I was at a very personal crossroads in life. I weighed about 100 kg and my daily exercise routine consisted mainly of getting the mail in the morning. I had decided to turn my life around, and so I said goodbye to my old job up and started moving in a new direction. I was also about to move into a new apartment in Aarhus, after having spent a year living in a halfway-house. In short, I faced a lot of challenges which at the time seemed very scary. It was around this time that I also got really tired of the extra weight and of being so out of shape. So, I decided to change my diet and I slowly started shedding the weight. Since I wanted to get fitter, I took up running . I heard about your app through some friends, but I thought that it wasn’t for me because I didn’t want to measure anything due my total lack of fitness, and because my athletic performance was nothing to brag about. I dared myself to install your app anyway and try it out. I quickly discovered that when my pace was slow, it motivated me to continue to try and improve my times and go for longer and longer distances. My first Endomondo workout was approximately 4 km and I remember that I was completely finished and exhausted afterwards! The first several months I was limping around due to my aching legs 🙂 In May of the following year, I ran my first marathon in Copenhagen. This culminated in my participation at IM Copenhagen in August 2014 (pictured above) – three years after my first Endomondo workout.

His great memories of the past three years

I know that there are many different factors in my life that made this possible, especially my family and friends who have supported me through all my wild whims and who have always shown incredible and unwavering faith in me. Your app is also part of the reason, and so I’ve wanted to write this email for a long time. Due to a lack of time and the fact that it’s a pretty personal story, it took me a while to pull myself together and send it, but here it is 🙂

PS. Now I am in the process of advanced studies in the field that I started and I love my new job. At long last, I have finally found my niche in life. Finally, many thanks for your great app, which has helped make all of this possible. I hope you continue your good work with Endomondo for many years to come!”

When we asked Peter about what he’s currently working on, he told us that he is pursuing a career in Health and Social Care. “My job now is about helping people and I love doing that so maybe, just maybe, I will study on and become a nurse, but I’m not sure about that right now”.

We are humbled to have been part of Peter’s remarkable transformation of not only his body, but his entire life. Stories like his make us continue to strive to achieve more in order to pay tribute to our community with the same dedication that keeps us in awe of our amazing users.

Thank you Peter, and tillykke!
