After a long day of work it’s easy to want to go home and put your feet up. However, if you find yourself feeling guilty about skipping a workout but can’t muster the motivation after clocking out from your 9 – 5, then consider this blog post a friendly reminder of all the things you can do to stay motivated after a hard days work.

Ten Ways to Stay Motivated to Workout After Work:

  1. Find Time to Make Time:
    After leaving the office it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by all the “to do’s” that await you at home. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day. When you look at your day that way, doesn’t a sweat break seem important enough to add to your “to do” list? Do the dishes before work, do laundry during your guilty pleasure reality TV shows—whatever it is that has you rushing home, make your workout just as important. 30 minutes in a 24 hour period isn’t much, right?
  2. Business Suit to Sweat Suit:
    Get yourself in the mindset for working out by looking like you’re working out. It’s hard to talk yourself out of running once you’re dressed and ready to go. Bring your gear to work and change before leaving the office, it’s that easy.
  3. Surround Yourself with Inspiration:
    Make that photo of your dream bod your desktop wallpaper, tape that inspirational quote to the dashboard of your car—keep yourself surrounded by reminders of why working so hard is worth working hard.
  4. Pump Up the Jams:
    Get yourself in gear with your ultimate workout playlist. If a song can get your head bobbing there’s no doubt that it can get your feet moving. Just try to listen to “Eye of the Tiger” without feeling like running, we dare you.
  5. Stop Commuting and Start Exercising:
    How far do you live from your desk? Not far? Why not bike and burn calories rather than gasoline? Saving money and working out at the same time doesn’t have to be to good to be true.
  6. Track Your Progress:
    Stay motivated by the numbers. Track your run, bike ride, walk etc. Seeing how far you’ve come will only make you want to go that much further.
  7. Buddy System:
    Chances are if you’re needing an extra push to workout someone else around you is too. Find this friend or coworker and pair up. You might be surprised by how many other people are willing to join you.
  8. Friendly Reminders:
    Now that you have enlisted the buddy system, have those buddies keep you accountable. If you have a goal to workout 5 days a week let those around you know about it and have them give you the extra push your need when you’re feeling like playing hooky.
  9. Set Goals:
    When you’re at work you have deadlines. People expect something from you. Start expecting something from yourself by setting goals. Run that extra mile, beat your personal best— whatever it is that keeps your workouts fun and motivating, do it!
  10. Treat Yo’ Self:
    Give yourself a treat for a job well done. Massage for beating your personal best? Go for it. New jeans now that your current ones can be slipped on and off without unbuttoning them? Get ’em. You deserve a little something nice for being so nice to your body.
