Pep Talks Make You Smile

pep talks during workouts

Every feature on Endomondo is meant to keep you motivated and help you reach your goals. Stats, training plans, audio coach…each has its own merits and we love hearing that you enjoy working out with them. There is one feature which we think doesn’t get enough attention, even though every time you get one, it’s sure to put a smile on your face. We’re talking about pep talks.

For those of you who haven’t tried them out yet, pep talks are motivating, real-time messages read out loud to the person you send them to while they’re working out. Sending one is easy. All you have to do is go to your news feed and see which one of your Endomondo friends is currently tracking an activity.

Then, type in your message which they’ll hear through their speaker (and have it posted as text on their workout too). If you could use some help figuring out how to send pep talks or are looking to learn more about them, check our our pep talk feature guide.

We said that pep talks make people smile, but did you know that when you smile, you release endorphins? Multiple studies have shown that these awesome neurotransmitters are triggered when the muscles on your face form a smiling expression.

And smiling doesn’t only contribute to that coveted endorphin boost; it can also help alleviate stress and pain during a workout. Here, even faking it will do the trick, but when you get a great pep talk during a workout, you don’t need to fake it, do you?

As with all good things, when you share them, they comes back around. Think of a pep talk as a kind of karmic fitness feature, and remember that the more you send, the more likely you are to get some sent back to you. Not only will you be spreading the motivation, you’ll probably hear a great story from your friend about what they were up to when you sent it!

Shouting out great pep talks

So, to give our pep talks some much-deserved recognition and to highlight some of the motivating gems sent each day by fitness fans like you, we’re hosting our second annual Pep Talk Awards! We want to hear those fun, inspiring, endorphin-boosting pep talks that you’ve been sending and getting. Share them with us and yours could be the winner of the “Best 2015 Pep Talk”. All you have to do to enter your pep talk is to send it in through our entry form.

After the entry round is over, we’ll share the best nominees on Facebook and have the Endomondo community vote for their favorites. Once all the votes are counted, we’ll announce the winners on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter! By entering your pep talk, you’ll be eligible to win Endomondo Premium and MyFitnessPal Premium subscriptions.

We’ll select the finalists and submit them to a vote. The grand prize winner will win a full year of Endomondo Premium and MyFitnessPal Premium membership, and have their pep talk shared on our social channels. The first runner up will win three months of both Endomondo and MyFitnessPal Premium memberships, and the second runner up will receive three months of Endomondo Premium.

You already know that winning Endomondo Premium will help you reach your training goals thanks to advanced stats, training plans and in-depth insights, but do you know that together with your MyFitnessPal membership, you can reach your fitness goals even faster? MyFitnessPal Premium gives you easy access to your nutrient intake right on your dashboard, so you can check how far you are from your macronutrient goals at a glance.
